Carlos Alcaraz ‘hopes’ Daniil Medvedev feels ‘nerves’ in Wimbledon Semi-final
Carlos Alcaraz has spoken about the ‘aura’ that Wimbledon Centre Court has, as his semi-final opponent Daniil Medvedev takes to it for the first time this year.
Alcaraz beat Rune, 7-6(3) 6-4 6-4, to reach his first Wimbledon semi-final and was surprised by how emphatically he beat his fellow 20-year-old.
“I didn’t expect to win 3-0 [against Rune],” revealed Alcaraz. “He’s a really tough opponent, I’m sure we’re going to have a lot of great moments.
“We’re going to play a lot of matches as well. I knew that for him it was not easy to play a quarter-final against me in the Centre Court. It was his first time on Centre Court so I expect that but hopefully had a great game.”

Alcaraz has played four of his five matches on Centre Court this year, while his semi-final opponent Medvedev has not played on the biggest court that SW19 offers in 2023.
In-fact the only occasion that Medvedev has played on Centre Court was to complete the two remaining sets of his fourth round match against Hubert Hurkacz in 2021.
Alcaraz is hoping that the former No.1 feels the ‘nerves’ like he did, “The aura that you live on Centre Court is different than the other ones.”
The Spaniard continued, “I can only talk with my limited experience, but for me the first time playing on Centre Court was really tough to deal with the nerves about playing in this beautiful court.
“I hope Daniil will feel the same. But every player is different and I don’t know how he’s going to feel about playing Centre Court.”
Alcaraz and Medvedev will take to Centre Court later today, following the conclusion of the first semi-final between Novak Djokovic and Jannik Sinner.
