Canada has produced some of the finest athletes ever to grace the planet. Yet while winter sports come naturally to the nation, success in tennis comes in waves and is often hard won. Felix Auger-Aliassime


While others may have more accolades cemented in the history books, Auger-Aliassime has the potential to be one of the greatest. You only need to look at his form to date. At the age of 22, he has managed to achieve a career-high of 6th place in the rankings, making him the second highest-ranked player in Canadian history. Consistently, he has managed to reach numerous doubles and singles finals, including Wimbledon. This year has been his most successful yet, as he has won four major titles. Daniel Nestor is one of the greatest doubles players of all time. Second only to the Bryan twins in the record books, he has amassed a career of 91 doubles titles. That takes him to a total of 1062 wins. He was the first man in history to gain an Olympic gold medal, along with winning every major and master’s event, plus the tour finals. He only retired in 2018 after a 28-year career.

His first title came in 1994 when he paired with Mark Knowles while playing in Columbia. As part of the Canadian Davis Cup team, he beat Stefan Edberg to gain international recognition. With Knowles, he would win three Grand Slam Doubles titles while also reaching numerous finals. As a mixed pairing, he would often pair with Lina Krasnoroutskaya, with whom he won the Australian Open.

Eugenie Bouchard


Eugenie Bouchard was the first Canadian to reach a Grand Slam final at Wimbledon in the 2014 singles tournament. This follow her 2013 breakthrough season, where she was named the Women’s Tennis Association Newcomer of the Year. This led to her first WTA title, along with a top-five world ranking.

This would be followed by a sporadic form. Concussions saw her drop out of the US Open, and in 2018, she dropped out of the top 100. However, she was not to give up and had a huge resurgence showing her fighting capability. Here, she had much success in doubles, even winning the Auckland Open. This was followed by a return to the WTA finals.
